On Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari met privately with UN Deputy Secretary-General, Amina Mohammed at the State Building in Abuja.

In his address to the State Building correspondent at the end of the meeting, Amina said the meeting was an opportunity to express UN recognition for President Buhari for his leadership not only in Nigeria but also in the West African sub-region.

Report got to Goldenbaze that the issue of gender-based violence in Nigeria with particular reference to the recent killing of PDP Kogi Women leader was discussed at the meeting

“We’ve paid a courtesy call, we expressed appreciation of the Secretary-General for the present leadership not just in the country but within the region with the number of challenges that we have given the conflict and climate change and some of the political issues around elections within the region.

“We also touched on the many vast issues of the humanitarian crisis that we have, this, of course, has stretched across from the North East to the North West of Nigeria, the support that we are giving.

“We also talked about the activation of 16 days of gender-based violence that began on Monday,” he said.

When asked what President Buhari felt during his visit to the Presidential Villa, he answered: “Not only did he greet his ex-minister, but he also thanked the United Nations for his support.”
